Whenever we want to enjoy a delicious meal in a warm atmosphere, the first place that comes to mind in The Carriage House. For as long as we can remember, this has been one of our favorite restaurants. We’ve celebrated many birthdays there and brought out-of-towners, knowing we will all have a great meal.

The best word to describe their atmosphere is cozy. Their first location, in Patterson, NY, has a bar area with a couple of high tops and a few tables on one side. The dining room is on the other side and small. Because of the small size of the restaurant, there’s a warm and cozy feeling throughout, especially in the winter. The walls are decorated with black and white pictures and other horse related artifacts. In the summer, there’s a patio outside with tables and umbrellas. Although they are located on a busy road, the patio is surrounded by shrubs, so you don’t notice the road too much. The restaurant is family friendly and the staff is always great.
Comfort Food Galore
There are so many delicious items on their menu and we’ve had a lot of them. For this review, we will focus on our favorites.
As mentioned in previous posts, I’m a bit nacho obsessed and Carriage House is on the top of our nacho list. They are topped with cheese, pulled pork, pico de gallo, sour cream, tomatoes, onions, and lettuce. When we order, since everyone has their own preferences, we usually get pork and cheese on top, everything else on the side. If you order without any modifications, it all comes on top and is super delicious, too.
One appetizer many restaurants offer that is often frozen and not made fresh is fried zucchini. This is absolutely not the case here! The fried zucchini has a deliciously flavored breading, fried to perfection, with parmesan herb butter. It is served with marinara sauce on the side which is good. Personally, I like my zucchini sticks with ranch dressing, so I’ll get a side for dipping.
A newer appetizer that we love are the pretzel sticks. They’re soft buttery pretzels, served with beer cheese and beer mustard. A lot of restaurants are adding items like this to their menus and we’ve tried at other places. The pretzel sticks here are some of the best. Our son has ordered this as his meal and loved it.
If you like pickles, the spicy pub pickles are great. They’re also freshly breaded, fried, and served with a great dipping sauce.
Onto the next course…
There are many meal options on the menu, including salads, sandwiches, burgers, pasta, steaks, etc. As with the apps, we’ve tried a ton, but here are our favorites.
The BBQ Ranch Salad is my go-to salad here. The salad has grilled bbq chicken, avocados, frizzled onions, tomatoes, corn, black beans, and cucumbers over mixed greens. The bbq ranch dressing is always served on the side, which is what I personally prefer. If you like you dressing on the salad, just ask. This is a refreshing salad, perfect for the summer.
There are so many delicious sandwiches served, it’s hard to pick just one to feature, so I’ll choose my top three. 🙂
The Carriage House Philly is SO good. It’s much like a traditional Philly cheese steak, but with a broccoli rabe. I love broccoli rabe, so it’s right up my alley. The bread is paired perfectly, on a garlic wedge.
Another delicious sandwich is the Chicken Cutlet Focaccia. The sandwich is stacked high with chicken cutlet, roasted red peppers, fresh mozzarella, and balsamic reduction on focaccia bread. The flavor combination is perfect.
My third sandwich is a newer addition to the menu, the Crispy Jalapeno Chicken. I love spicy food, so anything that has jalapeno in my name catches my eye. This sandwich is on…wait for it…jalapeno cornbread! On the sandwich is chicken cutlet, pepper jack cheese, jalapeno aioli, and pico de gallo. Because I love spice, I also ask for fresh diced jalapeno on the side, to add myself. Don’t let the name scare you, the sandwich isn’t overly spicy; it’s a perfect blend and subtly spicy. All sandwiches and burgers are served with fries, but you can sub with waffle fries, sweet potato fries, or onion rings, if you’d like.
A wide variety of entrees are also available, including pasta, steaks, and seafood.
There’s a kids menu with your regular options such as pasta and chicken fingers. One choice that our kids love are the mac and cheese bites. There are four bites served with fries. The portion is a great size for kids.
A wide variety of wines and cocktails are offered. Additionally, many specialty beers are available. These change seasonally and there are many different types available, to suit everyone’s preferences. My husband always finds a unique beer to try here and they always serve with the specific glass to make the beer taste best.
For non-alcoholic drinks, you can get some fun flavored iced tea and lemonades. When I was pregnant with my little ones, they were a great option as a ‘mocktail’. The kids love them, too!
If you’re looking for a comfortable place, to enjoy some delicious food in a relaxed atmosphere, you should head over to The Carriage House. In addition to the standard menu options, there are always appetizer, soup, burger, entree, and dessert specials. These usually change monthly and some are pretty over the top; one I remember recently was a burger with a glazed donut as a bun!
For this post, we focused on their first location, in Patterson, NY. Because of their success at their first location, they have a second, larger location in Mahopac, NY. We’ve been to this one many times too. The food is consistent with the first location and menus are the same. The second restaurant carries over the cozy country feel of their first location.
We love heading to both Carriage House locations throughout the year. Your visit can guarantee a good meal, in a great atmosphere. Check them out!
